This is the town that supposedly inspired the Ghbli Studios’ classic “Spirited Away”. About 4 hours north of Tokyo via the Shinkansen, this idyllic little Japanese Onsen town is quietly nestled away in the mountains. I happened to visit here in the winter when there was still snow on the ground, and it truly feels a little bit magical.
