What are the odds of finding something like this in a megacity? This is the red pagoda in Hong Kong’s Nan Lian Gardens. Getting there is easy via a short train ride to the Diamond Hill train station, and then a quick walk across the road which will get you here. Hong Kong usually doesn’t have skies as clear as this. During my visit there was a rather large storm was brewing in the South China Sea which cleared the skies.
While one may be fooled into believing that this garden is ancient, it was a joint project of the Chi Lin Nunnery and the Hong Kong Government which opened to the public in 2006. The garden covers three-and-a-half hectares of open space and is designed in a style consistent with the Tang Dynasty, with hills, fountains and cascades, and traditional style wooden structures laid out amid the trees and rock gardens. If you’re in Hong Kong, I would definitely recommend a visit here.
